TheCapital reportage:
A wayward wife afflicts her husband like a bad disease. By her errant ways, she dismounts his mind and enrages it. She reduces him in character and honour; eventually, she unmans him. The unmanned man however, knows when and how to pick his battles with his wife, ultimately he swallows his pride and keeps discomforting silence despite the shame and ignominy that she visits upon him. Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke, however, has no need for such pitiful humility. The husband of the former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has learnt to take uncomplimentary news about his wife in good stride hence his enviable calm and maturity in handling the ceaseless damaging reports about his wife - particularly news bordering on her alleged corruption and extra-marital relationships with certain business associates. Were all the reports and allegations indeed true, the Alison-Maduekes' marriage would be over by now, so argued sources very close to the couple. The former petroleum minister's husband, it has been revealed, has learnt to accord his wife the benefit of doubt given the society's perceived taste and inclinations for perpetuating damaging news and rumours about highly influential celebrity figures. The fact that his wife has made several enemies while in the service of the country also counsels the Rear Admiral to exercise caution and restraint in reacting to uncomplimentary reports about her, revealed a source very close to the couple. While the retired naval chief has learnt to shun such damaging news, there is no gainsaying it hurts him deeply to see the same society that his wife devoted considerable time to serve, ceaselessly attack and subject her to unfair and intense scrutiny. Few men can stomach such development without losing their cool. Thus Rear Admiral Madueke undoubtedly possesses a very matured and understanding mind. That is why he maintains silence and unabashed love for his wife in spite of the persistent attacks launched against her both in the new and traditional media.Knowing there is nothing he could do to stop the rumours or punish the rumour mongers, the retired naval officer chose the easy way out and deliberately ignores the damaging rumours.Diezani's husband no doubt, presents a worthy role model to several men, particularly husbands to powerful and influential women in public service whose stewardship and personality are subjected to unfair scrutiny and intense, ceaseless attacks geared to ruin their careers, homes and distract them from discharging their duties proficiently and effectively. The former petroleum minister's husband refused to do what less mature and faithful husbands would have done and send his dear wife packing from his house; unlike what a less loving husband would have done, the retired naval officer does not believe fate has risen to his defense by afflicting his wife with malicious rumours and travails commensurate to certain disgraceful habits of hers. Rear Admiral Madueke does not let uncomplimentary rumours about his wife skew his impression of her as a lovable wife, mother and seasoned public servant who gave her all in serving her country. Even as the media and social space buzzes with worrisome news and speculations about her imminent prosecution by the incumbent government of President Muhammadu Buhari over her alleged complicity in gross acts of embezzlement of public funds and corruption, the ex-naval chief remains solidly behind his wife, according to The Capital findings.Sources close to the couple revealed that Diezani's husband and some family members are not happy about the incessant scandalous news they read about her. They believe it is unfair that the former petroleum minister is subjected to such hideous treatment by a country she served diligently and unreservedly. Rear Admiral Madueke, born in 1944, was appointed military governor of Anambra State from January 1984 to August 1985, and then of Imo State until 1986. He later became Chief of Naval Staff.
He must be a real gentleman!
