GEJ in trouble for branding National Electronic Identity Card with MasterCard’s logo

Nigerian government under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan is currently under heavy criticisms for branding the newly launched National ID Card with MasterCard’s logo.

DailyPost reports that President Jonathan formally launched the issuance process for the MasterCard’s branded National Electronic Identity Card (E-Id Card) at an epoch making event held yesterday at the banquet hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President however failed to explain why the UK-based financial institution branded the ID Card.

However, many Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora are still wondering why the national property should bear a logo of a foreign conglomerate.

According to them, branding the ID Card with the company’s logo was an insult to the acclaimed ‘Giant of Africa.’

Those who could not hold back their words took to their various social media platforms to lash out at the PDP led government.

In his view, a certain Lanre wrote, “When a government is run by a moron, the people gradually become idiots. I have no pity for Nigeria. As for Nigerians, congratulations on being branded by Mastercard. You are now priceless!

Another Oghro Eco wonders why a company should brand a property of a nation, saying that Nigerians should reject the e-ID Card.

She said, “President Jonathan is either too dumb or too naive to realize the implications of some of his actions. He may be driven by passion to get results where others have failed but this man just doesn’t understand economics, security or sovereignty. If the many advisers, praise singers and hangers cannot advise the president on things such as this , then they should all be sacked.
